We all know them don't we.

People who can eat out whenever they want. Order pudding. Have a night on the tiles and still look amazing in their skinny jeans.

It's frustrating isn't it.

Especially when you put on 10lbs just by looking at a picture of chocolate.

What is their secret?

I mean, it's not like you don't work out. But still, you look at chocolate, and up go the scales. How can people eat what they want, and still look so amazing?

Well, the secret is they understand the what healthy eating for weight loss really means. 

And now I'm going to share it with you.

Healthy Eating for Weight loss: It's All About Balance

There's no magic formula really.

The secret to being able to eat what you want is ... balance.

You have to understand that you can't eat whatever you want, whenever you want.  Everything is on the menu but it has to be in moderation.

Yes, takeaways, microwave meals, chocolate, cake and even beer. It's all on the menu. But moderation is the key to losing weight and keeping it off.

I don't mean spending the week having a takeaway for dinner and then drinking 10 cans of beer. That's not what I'd call healthy or a balance. And if you do, then there's something we need to talk about.

I mean, having some chocolate if you fancy it, just don't eat a large bar all to yourself. A couple of squares is fine, but then adjust your meal portions.

If you know you're going out for a meal, or even a night on the tiles, reduce the amount you're eating over the week. It doesn't have to be by much. But a small reduction at every meal, can lead to a large surplus over the week.

Let me give you an example.

If you're eating 1,700 calories a day to lose weight, that equates to 11,900 over the week. If you reduce your calorie intake to 1,600 each day that means you have a difference of 700 calories. That's enough for a few glasses of wine or a pudding when you're out.

I'm not suggesting you do that every week. Again it's all about balance.

Remember, there is more to a healthy lifestyle than eating the right food and exercising more. It's about nurturing your friendships, spending time with your family and having some me time.

They are all essential.

Healthy Eating for Weight Loss: Don't Stuff Yourself

There has to be balance in quantity as well. So don't stuff yourself silly.

I see it all the time. Especially at carvery's and buffets.

People load up their plates an they'll sit there until they eat it all. You can see they are physically struggling to fit it all in, but they still try. Feeling full, bloated and uncomfortable they complain all the way out of the restaurant. And probably for a few hours afterwards. But I'll bet you £10 the next time they're at a buffet or carvery they do the same.

It could come from growing up where you had to finish your dinner before you could leave the table, or have a treat. But as we pile more and more food onto our plate it means we are massively overeating.

Remember balance.

Yes, you can have a hearty meal but stop when you're feeling full. You don't have to finish everything on your plate. Because let's face it, feeling pleasantly satiated is much more pleasurable than shovelling that last mouthful of food in.

And do you really need that pudding as well? Probably not. Your body is probably screaming at you that you don't.

Listen to it.

So healthy eating is all about balance.

Understand that you can eat whatever you fancy, but in moderation.

If you splurge in one area, cut back in others.

Once you learn that, I guarantee losing weight will become easier.
